Turkey has the world’s second place by honey production. The incentives applied by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock since 2008 are paved the way of the apiculture and honey sector.

Within the development gained during the last years, Turkey has enhanced the honey production to 83 kiloton and took the second place on the World ranking. The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock made on 2011 35 million Lira support payment to 35.459 bee farmers approximately for 5 million beehives.

Hakan Öztürk, the Head of Small Domesticated Poultry Department, stated that the beehive support was paid for one hive 7 TL and the bumblebee support was paid as 60 TL for a colony on 2011.

Hakan Öztürk told that it was made support payment approximately for 52 thousand colony 2 million 600 thousand TL on 2011.

Öztürk also informed that Turkey is on the second place in the World with yearly 83 thousand honey productions and with more than 5 million 300 thousand beehives, but it has not still reached the World average of the honey yield for each hive.

Stating that the honey yield of each hive of Turkey is changing between 15 – 17 kg by years, but the World average is 20 kg, Öztürk mentioned that their aim is to enhanced the honey yield of each hive to the World standards level.

Hakan Öztürk determining that Turkey has the ¾ of the honey given nectar plants of the World, informed that the flower, chestnut, thyme, tragacanth, citrus, cotton and sunflower honeys are the most important honey sorts of our country
